ABOUT KALIN
Autism will never define me! Who I am, I decide!
Doctors told my mom, I would never walk; I would
never talk and college was NOT an option. Yet, I can
walk, I can talk, and I can dunk. As far as college goes,
I've become the first athlete with autism to receive a
Division 1 scholarship.
I love the game of basketball and my love for it pushed me out of my shell and forced me to develop better communication, interpersonal, and visual skills. It has taught me how to be...
I can easily say, "I want to be a baller, but I understand my platform is bigger than that." I mean I think it's cool to make history but it's even greater to live with a purpose. I see myself as a trailblazer, an example, and hopefully an inspiration for others who are figuring out their purpose or finding their strengths or who are overcoming whatever obstacles are in their way. I hope I am being that on and off the court. I hope I can be just as inspiring to people without autism as I hope to be for people on the spectrum.
I won't make any excuses because of my disability nor will I limit myself either. I know there are challenges ahead, just like there were some in my past but I believe with a strong support team, my faith and tenacity nothing is too hard. One of my favorite mantras, "Nothing's easy, everything must be earned.
